Just weeks after securing a significant legal victory, Blake Lively is asking a federal judge to require Justin Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, to pay more than $8 million in attorneys’ fees and litigation expenses.

According to court filings submitted this week, Lively is requesting $8,035,040.88 to cover the legal costs she says she incurred while defending herself against Baldoni’s now-dismissed $400 million defamation lawsuit.

Why Is Blake Lively Seeking the Money?

The latest filing is not a new lawsuit seeking damages.

Instead, Lively is asking the court to reimburse the legal fees she accumulated while defending herself after Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit against her, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and others during the highly publicized It Ends With Us legal dispute.

Earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman ruled that Lively could pursue reimbursement of her legal costs under a California law designed to protect people who report workplace harassment from retaliatory lawsuits. However, the judge has not yet decided whether Baldoni must pay the full amount requested.

How the Legal Battle Began

The legal fight stems from allegations made by Lively related to the production of the 2024 film It Ends With Us.

Lively alleged that Baldoni sexually harassed her and retaliated against her after she raised concerns during production. Baldoni has consistently denied those allegations.

In response, Baldoni filed a $400 million lawsuit alleging defamation and other claims against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and others. That lawsuit was ultimately dismissed by the court, allowing Lively to seek reimbursement for her legal expenses.

The Court Still Has the Final Say

While Lively is seeking more than $8 million, the money has not been awarded.

Justin Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios have until July 13 to file their response challenging the request. After reviewing both sides’ arguments, the judge will determine whether Lively receives all, part, or none of the requested reimbursement.

The latest filing marks another chapter in one of Hollywood’s most closely watched legal disputes, even after the broader litigation between the parties was resolved earlier this year.
