Kelly Osbourne is opening up about one of the darkest parts of her life since losing her father, Ozzy Osbourne — and what she says happened to her body as grief took over.

The 41-year-old singer and television personality says she became so consumed by the pain of her father’s death that she didn’t even realize how dramatically she had changed physically.

It wasn’t until she saw a photograph taken during a fitting for the 2026 Grammy Awards that she finally saw what everyone around her had been seeing.

And the image frightened her.

“I Couldn’t See What Other People Saw”

In a new interview, Kelly said she was in so much emotional pain after Ozzy’s death that she couldn’t recognize what was happening to her physically.

Looking back at the photograph, she said she was shocked by how thin she had become.

“I couldn’t see what other people saw because I was in so much pain. I just saw a broken person.”

She described the image in brutally honest terms, saying she looked like the “Crypt Keeper” and that she could see every bone in her spine.

For Kelly, the realization wasn’t about vanity. It was a frightening reminder of just how deeply grief had affected her.

Her Father’s Death Changed Everything

Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76.

The legendary Black Sabbath frontman had spent decades as one of rock music’s most recognizable figures, but to Kelly, he was simply her dad.

His death left the Osbourne family facing a loss that Kelly has repeatedly described as overwhelming.

Kelly has previously spoken about struggling to function after his death and recently said that she feels like a part of herself died with him.

That grief also affected her relationship with food.

Kelly explained that she essentially lost her appetite while dealing with the emotional devastation, rather than deliberately setting out to lose weight.

The 2026 Grammys Were Harder Than People Realized

The Grammy Awards became an especially emotional moment for the Osbourne family because the ceremony included a major tribute to Ozzy.

Kelly attended as artists including Post Malone, Slash, Duff McKagan and Andrew Watt honored her father with a performance of “War Pigs.”

But behind the scenes, Kelly says she wasn’t doing well.

She recalled trying to find clothing that would make her appear less thin and even wearing a wig to help conceal how gaunt her face had become.

“I wasn’t very well,” she said.

At the time, many people watching the Grammys had no idea what Kelly was experiencing privately.

She Was Trying to Protect Her Son

Kelly has also explained that part of her struggle involved trying to shield her young son, Sidney, from the full weight of her grief.

Rather than allowing her child to constantly see how devastated she was, she tried to hold herself together around him.

That meant dealing with an enormous amount of pain while still trying to be a mother.

And that may be one of the most revealing parts of Kelly’s story: grief doesn’t necessarily stop everyday responsibilities.

People still have to get up. Parents still have to care for their children. Families still have to show up for birthdays, holidays and major events.

Sometimes the person falling apart inside is the same person everyone else expects to see smiling.

Kelly Is Now Talking About What Grief Really Looks Like

Kelly isn’t presenting her experience as a simple story about losing weight.

She’s talking about what can happen when profound grief affects the entire body.

She has also revealed plans for a three-part documentary focused on grief and bereavement, with the hope that sharing what she has experienced could help other people who are struggling after losing someone they love.

Her story comes as she continues to adjust to life without her father.

In recent weeks, Kelly has also spoken about moving back to the United Kingdom with her son and finding comfort closer to her family and her roots.

She Says Healing Is Happening — Slowly

Kelly has made it clear that she isn’t suddenly “over” the loss of her father.

That’s not how grief works.

But she has said that she is getting better and has people around her helping her through the process.

She has also spoken about seeing pieces of Ozzy in her son, Sidney, including his smile and mannerisms — something that can make the loss feel painful and comforting at the same time.

That may ultimately be what Kelly’s latest comments are really about.

Not weight.

Not appearance.

Grief.

She looked at a photograph and suddenly realized that the pain she felt inside had become visible on the outside.

Now, she’s trying to figure out how to move forward without pretending that losing her father didn’t change her.

Ozzy’s Legacy Is Still Very Much Alive

More than a year after his death, Ozzy Osbourne continues to occupy a massive place in popular culture and in his family’s life.

For Kelly, however, his legacy isn’t simply about Black Sabbath, sold-out concerts or rock history.

It’s about being his daughter.

It’s about missing her dad.

And it’s about learning how to live in a world where the person she spent much of her life knowing would always be there is suddenly gone.

Her willingness to talk about the physical and emotional effects of that loss may also help other people recognize something important: grief doesn’t always look like crying.

Sometimes it looks like losing your appetite.

Sometimes it looks like exhaustion.

Sometimes it looks like trying to take care of everyone else while quietly falling apart yourself.

And sometimes, you don’t realize how much you’ve changed until you see yourself through someone else’s eyes.
