Lady Gaga has quietly stepped into motherhood. The 40-year-old singer and her fiancé, tech entrepreneur Michael Polansky, have welcomed their first child together, according to multiple outlets including Page Six and People. True to the low-key approach Gaga has taken to her personal life this year, there was no pregnancy announcement — fans only found out after she was photographed out in Northern California carrying a newborn in a baby sling.

So far, Gaga and Polansky haven’t shared the baby’s name, sex, or date of birth, and reps for the couple have yet to confirm the news publicly. It tracks with how private the pair has kept things since Gaga’s Mayhem Ball tour wrapped in April — outside of a red carpet appearance at “The Devil Wears Prada 2” premiere, she’s mostly been out of the spotlight.

This is the first child for both Gaga (born Stefani Germanotta) and Polansky, joining a growing list of stars expanding their families this year. The couple got engaged back in April 2024. Gaga later opened up about the proposal on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” recalling that Polansky asked permission to propose right after a rock-climbing trip, adding it “was very Michael” of him to check in first.

The couple has been together since late 2019 and went Instagram-official in February 2020. Motherhood has clearly been on Gaga’s mind for a while — she told Stephen Colbert in 2025 that being a mom was her hoped-for “next starring role,” and in an earlier New York Times interview she admitted she was “excited to be a mom” despite some lingering nerves about the transition.

No word yet from Gaga’s team on official confirmation, but between the sling photos and her own comments over the past couple of years, it’s safe to say Mother Monster has a whole new meaning to her nickname now.

A Very Private Pregnancy

What’s striking about this whole story is just how quiet Gaga managed to keep it. This is a woman whose entire career has been built on spectacle — meat dresses, egg entrances, stadium tours — and yet she pulled off one of the more low-key celebrity pregnancies in recent memory. There was chatter linking her and Polansky to baby rumors as far back as mid-2024, which she brushed off on social media at the time. In hindsight, that denial lines up with just how far out the couple was from actually welcoming their first child, so it’s hard to fault her for shutting it down early.

Since wrapping The Mayhem Ball tour in April, Gaga has mostly stayed out of the public eye, save for a red carpet stop at the “The Devil Wears Prada 2” premiere in New York. Fans speculated at the time that she looked different, but nothing was confirmed until the Northern California sighting broke.

The Proposal Story, Revisited

Gaga and Polansky’s relationship has quietly spanned more than half a decade at this point. They met in late 2019 and were first spotted together kissing on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas. By February 2020, Gaga made things Instagram-official with a yacht photo, and she’s referred to him as “the love of my life” in interviews since.

The engagement itself came together in April 2024, though Gaga didn’t confirm it publicly until months later, casually referring to Polansky as her fiancé at the Paris Olympics that July. She later filled in the details on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” describing a rock-climbing trip where Polansky asked if he could ask her to marry him before actually popping the question — a very on-brand move for a couple that clearly likes doing things their own way.

She’s Wanted This For a While

Long before any bump watch or baby rumors, Gaga was fairly open about wanting to become a mother. Back in a March 2020 interview with InStyle, she marveled at pregnancy itself, saying it’s incredible that a person can carry a human inside them and then be responsible for keeping that tiny person alive once they arrive.

She circled back to the topic repeatedly in the years since. Speaking with the New York Times in early 2025, she admitted to feeling both excited and a little conflicted, noting she still carried some apprehension about the shift motherhood would bring to her day-to-day life. By the time she sat down with Stephen Colbert later that year, though, the apprehension had turned into anticipation — she told him flat out that becoming a mom was the “next starring role” she was hoping for.

Now that role has apparently begun. With no official statement yet from Gaga or Polansky, fans are left piecing things together from paparazzi photos and old interview clips — which, fittingly, is exactly how the world’s biggest pop stars tend to announce the biggest news these days.

What We Still Don’t Know

As of now, several key details remain under wraps:

  • The baby’s name
  • The baby’s sex
  • The exact birth date
  • Whether or when Gaga and Polansky plan to formally confirm the news
  • Any wedding plans, since the couple has been engaged since 2024 without setting a date

Given how tightly Gaga has guarded this chapter of her life so far, don’t expect those answers anytime soon. We’ll update this story as more details emerge.
