The model, who was open about his mental health and addiction struggles, died Sunday at a rehab facility. Here’s what we know, and what he shared before his death.
Presley Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has died at 27. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said he died Sunday at a rehabilitation facility, and an autopsy had not been completed, with no cause of death immediately available.
“The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time,” a representative said. Crawford’s publicist confirmed the news to CNN. He is survived by his parents and his younger sister, model and actress Kaia Gerber.
Who Presley Gerber Was
Gerber began modeling as a teenager, signing with IMG Models at 15. He made his runway debut for Moschino and went on to walk for Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren. He also appeared in a Calvin Klein campaign.
The Struggles He Talked About Publicly
Gerber’s difficulties played out in public for years. He spoke candidly about treatment after being charged with a DUI in 2019, and in 2024 he posted a video series called “Mental Health Mondays.” Read more in our mental health coverage.
In 2020, he got the word “misunderstood” tattooed on his face. He explained in an Instagram livestream that it reflected how he had felt his entire life. The tattoo was later removed.
In a 2023 podcast interview, he said that if he helped even one person, or a hundred, get out of the place he had been in, that was all he needed to do.
His December 2025 Video on Medication
Last December, Gerber posted an Instagram video about the medications he was taking. He described using prescription medication including antidepressants and Xanax for panic attacks, and said he had experienced a lot of loss recently. The video has since been removed. Crawford commented at the time: “Presley — we love you and you are not alone.”
He also said he wanted clearer guidance from his doctors. He said he’d seen roughly 15 psychiatrists, many of whom handed him a long list of medications to take as needed, when what he wanted was direction. In the same video, he said he had stopped drinking.
One of His Last Posts
In March, Gerber shared footage from Mexico taken before what he called an “ibogaine flood dose.” Ibogaine is a psychoactive substance derived from an African shrub and is not approved for medical use in the U.S. He wrote that he had faced what he’d been running from and felt he was finding his way back to himself.
Family and Friends React
Weeks before his death, Kaia spoke about the family’s experience with addiction in a Vogue cover story. She said that when something like that happens in a family, it “levels everyone,” and that she came to think of herself as “the easy one” who never wanted to ask for help. In July, Crawford had marked her son’s 27th birthday with a post saying she was proud of the man he’d become.
His friend Paris Hilton wrote that she was “completely heartbroken.”
