Singer-songwriter and DJ Soleil kicked off the summer with a jazzy, soulful cover of Dolly Parton’s timeless classic, “Jolene.” Now she’s following it up with an original single, “Heart Strings,” a sultry, moody R&B/Soul jam with Blues, Funk, Jazz, and Neo-Soul flair that shows off Soleil’s impressive vocal range.
“Heart Strings” is a heartbreak-and-reclamation anthem — a reflective track that dives into the lingering nostalgia and melancholy of a breakup, balancing somberness with a motivational, self-love message. Soleil explains that the song “explores the phases of a less-than-ideal relationship,” with lyrics that move from questioning the past to embracing personal growth. She adds that the track “captures the bittersweet process of letting go while reclaiming the parts of yourself that someone else never gave you.”
The music video, directed by Riccardo Solorzano, brings the song’s cinematic soundscape to life, bouncing between black-and-white and color to mirror the track’s push and pull between solemn and uplifting. The addition of crowd noise throughout gives the video a live, interactive feel as Soleil delivers a powerful, seasoned performance.
“Heart Strings” was co-written by Soleil and CJ Hilton, who also produced the record. The band behind the track includes Richard Boisrond on guitar, Moises Lenare on drums, Josh Walton on bass, and Juan Santiago on keys, with renowned engineer Paolo Angulo handling the mix and master.
The single precedes Soleil’s upcoming release, “Rubbish,” which will also arrive with its own music video. In the meantime, “Heart Strings” is a fitting introduction to an artist who moves fluidly between genres and moods — as comfortable behind a DJ booth as she is delivering a heartfelt, stripped-down vocal performance.
