Several members of a trafficking ring connected to a McDonald’s restaurant in the United Kingdom have been sent to prison after authorities uncovered a shocking modern slavery scheme.

Police say the group targeted people who were out of work and hoping for a better life. They were promised jobs, housing, and a chance to start over in the UK.

Instead, many ended up working long hours while seeing little of the money they earned.

The latest convictions involve Jan Drevenak, 39, and his partner, Monika Olahova, 41.

According to prosecutors, they brought a man to the UK and helped him get a job at McDonald’s. While he worked and earned a paycheck, investigators say most of his wages were taken by the trafficking network.

Court records show the man earned more than £12,000 over several months. Authorities say he received only about £90, while the rest of the money went into accounts controlled by others.

The victim also said his passport and personal documents were taken from him, making it difficult to leave.

He eventually escaped and later helped police expose the operation.

Investigators say the case was part of a larger trafficking network that operated for years. Workers were brought to the UK and placed in jobs at restaurants, bakeries, factories, and other businesses.

Many lived in crowded housing and were forced to hand over much of their pay.

The investigation led to several arrests and prison sentences for members of the same family.

The case made international headlines because some victims worked for well-known companies, including McDonald’s.

After the investigation, McDonald’s UK said it strengthened its procedures to help spot signs of labor exploitation and modern slavery.
