Hayden Panettiere, the actress who rose to fame as Claire Bennet on Heroes and later starred as country singer Juliette Barnes on Nashville, has died at the age of 36.

Panettiere died Sunday, August 16, in Greenville, South Carolina, after she was found unresponsive at an apartment complex. Her death was confirmed by her family through her representative.

According to the Greenville Police Department, officers and emergency medical personnel responded at approximately 1:51 p.m. to Judson Mill Lofts, located at 701 Easley Bridge Road, following a report of an unresponsive woman. Medical assistance was administered at the scene, but Panettiere was pronounced dead. An acquaintance placed the 911 call, authorities said.

Cause of Death Has Not Been Determined

Authorities have not announced Panettiere’s official cause or manner of death. The Greenville Police Department said the preliminary investigation has not revealed signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances, and the investigation is being conducted with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy is pending.
