WASHINGTON, D.C. — Authorities have identified the suspect in Saturday’s shooting incident outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from Torrance, California.

Investigators say Allen was taken into custody after gunfire erupted near a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton, where President Donald Trump, journalists, lawmakers, and invited guests were attending the annual event.

The shooting triggered an immediate lockdown and evacuation inside the ballroom as security personnel moved attendees to safety. Officials later confirmed that one law enforcement officer was struck in a protective vest and is expected to recover. No additional serious injuries were immediately reported.

As Allen’s name spread online, photos believed to show the suspect being detained quickly began circulating across social media. However, no official booking mugshot had been publicly released by authorities as of Sunday morning. Images widely shared online appear to come from arrest-scene footage rather than formal law enforcement records.

According to multiple reports, Allen has an educational background in engineering and computer science and previously worked as a tutor in California. Investigators are reviewing his travel history, digital devices, and possible motive.

Federal charges are expected as the investigation continues. Authorities have not yet publicly announced a final motive or whether additional charges may follow.
