Brad Garrett, who played the towering and sarcastic brother Robert Barone, recently shut down all hopes of the beloved show returning. While Hollywood seems obsessed with reviving classic shows, Garrett made it clear that Raymond won’t be joining the reboot club.

In an interview with People, Garrett said bluntly:

“There is no show without the parents.”

He’s referring to the late Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle, who played Marie and Frank Barone — the hilariously overbearing parents of Ray (Ray Romano) and Robert. Their dynamic was central to the show’s charm, and without them, Garrett doesn’t believe a reboot would feel right.

Roberts passed away in 2016, and Boyle in 2006, leaving a massive void in the show’s iconic family chemistry.

“They were the heart of the show. The foundation. It just wouldn’t be the same,” Garrett added.

Created by and starring Ray Romano, Everybody Loves Raymond aired from 1996 to 2005 and became a cornerstone of American sitcom history. With its relatable family chaos, sharp humor, and heartfelt moments, it won 15 Emmy Awards and remains a fan favorite through reruns and streaming platforms.

Garrett, now 64, has stayed active in comedy and acting — recently appearing in High Desert and lending his recognizable voice to animated projects. But while he’s nostalgic about the show, he’s also realistic.

And he’s not alone. Romano has echoed similar sentiments in the past, noting that while fans would love to see the Barones again, it would be difficult to capture the magic without the full cast.

So while we’ll always have the classic episodes — like Marie’s infamous cooking lessons or Frank’s one-liners — it looks like the Barones are staying in TV history, not making a comeback.

Verdict: Don’t expect a reboot. But do expect to laugh every time you rewatch.
