5 Things you should look for in a Body Scrub

Body Scrub- Yes it is March, and although we would all like to imagine that spring is around the corner, we will likely have a few more weeks of Winter- making this the perfect time to prep our skin for the days of short sleeves and bathing suits.

What is a better way to prepare our dry winter skin and reveal the fresh glow of what’s underneath than with a body scrub? But before you purchase a body scrub, let’s look into what we should look for in the ingredients because not every body scrub is created equal.

Here are the top 5 things you should look for in a body scrub:

body scrub

1. The Oils:

There’s a lot of science behind oils and how they benefit the skin. Some oils are heavy, with large molecules that sit on top of the skin. These act to protect, but not to heal or penetrate. They hold moisture in. Coconut Oil is a good example of a heavy oil.

Then there are oils that nourish the very top layers of skin, and soften dry skin. Olive Oil is my favorite example.

Then there are oils that penetrate the skin more deeply, and work to nourish new skin and give those cells a great start. Hello jojoba oil!

Coffee Bean Scrub

2. The Coffee:  COFFEE REDUCES CELLULITE. It works by tightening the skin, the same way it shrinks capillaries when you drink it.

3. The Sugar (vs. salt): Salt is great at detoxing. Because of its magnetic relationship with water, it can pull the muckiness from your skin. But in return, it dries you out and can also pull the good things from your skin too, like moisture.  There is a time and a place for salt, but not in a scrub.

Sugar, on the other hand, only deals with the surface. The dead, dry and flaky surface. So when aiming to exfoliate as a spring prep, aim for a sugar scrub.

4. The Feel: A Scrub shouldn’t feel like sand paper. Rather it should feel like your delicately scratching an itch. The components should not be course or painful. That defeats the purpose, you want to slough off dead skin, not damage new skin! You also should not have to rub hard, you should be gentle and still get the job done.

5. The Results of the Scrub: How does it make you feel? Do you notice a difference immediately? Do you love how soft your hands, feet, arms or legs feel after a treatment? If the answer is no, then it’s time to keep looking.

How to get rid of body acne

How to get rid of Body Acne In 2023

Acne on your shoulders, back, arms, chest and even your butt. It can be embarrassing and exhausting, but here's how to get rid of body acne and have beautiful clear skin.

How to get rid of body acne n 2023

10 ways to get rid of body acne that is easy and inexpensive.

1. Assess your skin

Know the type of skin that you have. Is it sensitive? Is it dry? Is it oily? This will make a big difference in the products that you should use.

Knowing how long you have had body acne is also important. Have you always had it it? Did it start after a hormonal change? Did it start when you started working out. Did it start when you started a certain diet?

2. Pick a Soap

If you have sensitive skin, use a body soap specifically for sensitive skin. Dove makes a very inexpensive bar soap. If you have normal skin try Neutrogena Body Soap.

It doesn’t have to be a bar soap, but what you want to look for is Salicylic Acid.

3. Use an Astringent with Salicylic Acid

Use a cotton ball and apply to the area. This will serve as a topical treatment. There are many deep pore cleansing products. Peach Slices | Acne Exfoliating Toner | 2% Salicylic Acid | AHA+BHA Exfoliation is affordable and effective.

You can also use a spot treatment.

4. Moisturize

Do not neglect moisturizing, especially after cleaning. Never leave that area dry. Use a good moisturizer. The same night cream you use on your face can be the same night cream you can use on your body to provide great moisture. Don’t neglect your body skin just because it isn’t always visable.

6. Start Switching to Cotton

Stay away from anything that is not breathable and traps moisture.

If you notice that most of your clothing is not cotton, begin making the switch.
If you noticed that working out and acne came hand in hand, opt for only cotton shirts and pants.

Also, make sure you clean the area right after your workout.

7. Wash your Clothing more often

For workout clothing, only wear the item only once. Bacteria likes to fester in wet areas. If you can’t afford to wear something new each time, sprinkle baking soda on the inside of the garment. This will help to get some of the moisture that may be causing the acne.

8. Change your Detergent

Change your detergent to something without scents and that is for sensitive skin. Your body acne may be caused by or even aggravated by the perfume in the detergent or softener. Use a clear formula or a natural brand.

9. Change your Diet

If you are doing the above and still have acne, then it could be something that you are eating. Wheat, cheese, saturated fats are known food items that cause acne. Read 5 Foods that May be Causing your Acne to learn more.

10. Use a Dark Spot Corrector

The scars left behind can be an unfortunate reminder of your fight with body acne.  You can use a topical dark spot corrector, laser scar removal or a natural remedy to get rid of body scaring.

The Mesmerizing Evolution of Mascara: Unveiling the Origins and Transformation

When it comes to enhancing the beauty of one’s eyes, mascara has long been an indispensable cosmetic product. With its ability to add volume, length, and allure to lashes, mascara has become a staple in the makeup routines of millions worldwide. But have you ever wondered how this iconic beauty tool came to be? Join us on a captivating journey through time as we unveil the fascinating origins and evolution of mascara.

Ancient Beginnings:

The origins of mascara can be traced back to ancient civilizations. In ancient Egypt, both men and women used kohl, a mixture of burnt almonds, soot, and other ingredients, to darken their eyelashes and eyebrows. This cosmetic practice not only enhanced their appearance but was also believed to protect their eyes from the harsh desert sun.

The Renaissance Revival:

After the fall of the Roman Empire, the use of cosmetics declined in Europe. However, during the Renaissance period, there was a resurgence of interest in beauty and grooming. Women of the upper classes sought ways to enhance their features, including their lashes. They used various mixtures containing ingredients like ashes, soot, and elderberry juice to darken their lashes, achieving a similar effect to modern-day mascara.

The Modern Mascara Emerges:

The birth of the modern mascara can be attributed to the 19th century. In 1834, a French perfumer named Eugene Rimmel developed the first commercial mascara. Rimmel’s product, known as “rimmel” in French, consisted of a mix of coal dust and petroleum jelly. The product gained popularity, and its name became synonymous with mascara in many languages.

Revolutionary Innovations:

The 20th century witnessed significant advancements in mascara technology. In 1913, a chemist named T.L. Williams created a waterproof mascara for his sister, Mabel. Inspired by the use of coal dust and petroleum jelly, he formulated a new product using a combination of petroleum jelly and carbon black pigment. This led to the establishment of the iconic cosmetics company we know today as Maybelline.

The Rise of Mascara Wands and Formulations:

In the 1950s, Helena Rubinstein introduced the mascara wand as we know it today. The addition of bristles made it easier to apply mascara evenly and precisely, enhancing lash separation and volume. The 1960s brought the advent of mascara formulas with new polymers, enabling the development of lengthening, curling, and volumizing effects.

Innovation in the 21st Century :

The 21st century has seen remarkable advancements in mascara technology. Cosmetic companies continue to introduce new formulas that emphasize lash health, using ingredients such as keratin and panthenol. Furthermore, innovations like tubing mascaras have gained popularity, providing a smudge-proof and long-lasting alternative.

From its ancient origins to the modern-day formulations and tools, mascara has evolved significantly.

What began as a simple mixture of natural ingredients has transformed into a multi-billion-dollar industry, offering countless options to enhance and define lashes. As we marvel at the mesmerizing impact of mascara today, we owe a nod of gratitude to the ingenious individuals who pioneered this remarkable beauty staple.

HOW TO REMOVE DARK SPOTS CAUSED BY PIMPLES

HOW TO REMOVE DARK SPOTS CAUSED BY PIMPLES

Here is an extensive list of different methods used to remove dark spots caused by acne

Living with acne can feel like riding a roller coaster. You finally clear up a breakout and you’re left with a dark spot or acne scar, but you’re unsure how to treat dark spots caused by pimples. Your initial instinct may be to try home remedies like lemon juice, aloe vera or reach for typical skincare with aggressive chemical peels and harsh exfoliating treatments, but here is how how to remove dark spots caused by pimples.

HOW TO REMOVE DARK SPOTS CAUSED BY PIMPLES
Image from Proven Skin Care

HOW TO ADDRESS DARK SPOTS AND ACNE SCARS LEFTOVER FROM PIMPLES, STEP-BY- STEP

1. Be Gentle on New Dark Spots as the Skin is Still Healing

When the spot or acne mark is still red and the pimple has only just faded, your skin is very inflamed. This is no time to use any kind of over-the-counter product or acid, so if you typically use Salicylic Acid or Glycolic acid all over your face as a preventative acne treatment, avoid applying these products directly on the affected areas. Your skin is very tender and irritated, and is not ready to for application of exfoliating treatments. Instead, try Hydrocortisone. Using hydrocortisone for dark spots is an effective way to calm inflammation and address and soothe the red in your skin. It acts as a natural anti-inflammatory Apply this for only a period of few days, as over time, Hydrocortisone can actually thin the skin and make it more fragile.

2. Introduce Vitamin C Once the Blemish has Healed

When the dark marks or affected areas have completely healed and are no longer irritated, it’s time to bring in the antioxidants to help get rid of dark spots. Load up on Vitamin C, especially in the morning, to prevent excess melanin from depositing and making the spot darker. Ask your dermatologist to recommend the best Vitamin C-based skincare products. Vitamin C is great for removing dark spots.

3. Use a Retinoid for Brightening the Appearance of Dark Spots

Research skincare products or, again, consult your dermatologist to recommend items that include a retinol derivative that you can use at night to help speed up the regeneration of your skin. This will help push new, healthy, bright skin to the surface. Retinoid is also used as spot treatment for acne.

4. Exfoliate New Dark Spots with Acids

Once your skin has fully healed, you can use exfoliating treatments twice a week. Use a gentle, chemical exfoliant to help even out your skin tone and fade dark spots and discoloration caused by pimples. Mandelic Acid and Azelaic acid are especially good for hyperpigmentation or Melasma, a condition that causes brown spots on the skin.

My Unbounded Life's Editors Pick

5. Protect Dark Spots, Acne Scars and Melasma from the Sun

The most important step of all is to protect your acne scars from the sun. Do not start your day without sunscreen. An SPF of 30 or higher is recommended. UV rays do infiltrate windows in homes, offices and cars, so always wear SPF. Wear a wide-brimmed hat if you are going to be outside for an extended period of time. UV rays are the enemy of acne scars, dark spots and other skin conditions. They trigger inflammation and spike melanin production, causing your dark spots and scars to become even darker and harder to fade.

WHAT CAUSES ACNE MARKS OR DARK SPOTS LEFT BEHIND BY PIMPLES?

The technical word for the spot left behind an acne lesion once it heals is Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation, or PIH. This type of pigment is different than normal dark spots because it is a result of inflammation. PIH is not specific to acne.

These dark spots caused by pimples can also commonly occur as a result of razor bumps and ingrown hairs. PIH is most common in darker skin types, and can last for longer than 5 years if left untreated. Keep skin hydrated when shaving or washing your face. Not only are ingrown hairs and razor bumps painful, they will keep returning. Use shaving products to soften and hydrate skin and don’t rush the process. Cuts on skin also take a while to heal.

Prevent PIH Dark Spots from Forming

You may also get PIH if you pick at a blackhead or pimple. Picking at an active acne lesion or blackhead increases the likelihood of leaving behind a dark spot, which is one of the reasons why dermatologists and aestheticians caution against it. You’re better off leaving it alone and letting it heal over time, as painstaking as that can be or feel. Or, you can go to a professional like a dermatologist or licensed aesthetician to help remove it.

Relax and Stick to the Plan to Cure Dark Spots Fast

Whether you pick at your pimple or let it heal naturally, PIH may occur either way. It’s important to treat the inflammation and use antioxidants like Vitamin C to inhibit melanin production. Most importantly, use daily sun protection to prevent your spot from worsening. Even a well-healed spot can suddenly become dark if you spend too much time in the sun. We hope this post has helped inform you about how to cure dark spots caused by pimples, and how to prevent further dark spots forming.
Stick to a skincare regimen best suited to your skin.

Start a skincare routine beneficial to your specific skin type, issues and need.

Choose a cleanser, moisturizer with SPF, toner and night cream that will address what skin needs, so you can avoid pimples, dark spots and acne scars from starting. Do your research, listen to your skin…and to your dermatologist.

These are the most efficient ways to remove dark spots caused by pimples.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is substance that is naturally found and produced in the body. It is a humectant as it holds water to the surface of your skin. The largest amount of HA is found in your skin, eyes and joints (connective tissue) (1, 2).

What does it do?

The main purpose of Hyaluronic Acid is to keep your tissues lubricated and moist by retaining water (1).

Where can you find it in beauty products?

It is found in some lip fillers and other topical beauty products (1, 2).

It comes in the forms of injections, eye drops, serums and supplements (1, 2).

What else does it treat?

When taken orally, studies have found that it can help increase skin moisture and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

When used topically, it can soothe redness and improve the suppleness of the skin.

It is also used to treat osteoarthritis (1).

Hyaluronic acid in beauty

It is popular in skin care because of its ability to restore moisture barriers and keep skin hydrated. Since the body produces it naturally, allergic reactions to it, are slim to none (3).

Here is what it is known to do/treat:

How is it made?

Non-vegan HA is made from rooster combs and other animal tissue. Vegan hyaluronic acid is not plant based. It is actually made from bacteria such as horse flu (1, 2, 4).

Side Chick Contract

A “side chick contract” is a term that gained popularity in casual and colloquial language, often on social media or in pop culture references. It’s not a legally binding document but rather a humorous or sarcastic way to describe an agreement between two people involved in a non-primary relationship. Here’s a breakdown of what such a “contract” might involve:
