Blake Lively’s absence from the 2025 Super Bowl has ignited speculation about a potential rift between her and longtime friend Taylor Swift. The two, who attended the event together in 2024, were notably apart this year, leading to various theories about the state of their relationship.
Reports suggest that the strain stems from Lively’s ongoing legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni. In December 2024, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment and retaliation.
In response, Baldoni countersued for defamation, claiming that Lively attempted to intimidate him by involving Swift in their disputes. He cited instances where Lively referred to Swift and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, as her “dragons” in text messages, implying they would support her stance.
This alleged involvement has reportedly left Swift feeling “used” and uncomfortable, leading to a cooling of their friendship. Consequently, Lively chose not to attend the Super Bowl to avoid further complicating Swift’s evening, especially given Swift’s support for her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs player Travis Kelce.
At the Super Bowl, Swift was seen in a VIP suite at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, accompanied by friends such as Ice Spice, the Haim sisters, and her brother Austin. Lively’s absence was conspicuous, given her presence at the previous year’s event.
While neither party has publicly addressed the rumored rift, the combination of Lively’s legal challenges and Swift’s reported feelings of being “used” has led to widespread speculation about the future of their friendship.
