Karen Huger, one of the most well-known faces from The Real Housewives of Potomac, has been sentenced to one year in jail following her DUI arrest in March 2024.
The Montgomery County judge overseeing the case handed down a two-year sentence, with one year suspended, along with a one-year driving ban after her release and five years of probation.
The Crash That Led to Her Arrest
On March 19, 2024, Huger crashed her Maserati into a pole in Potomac, Maryland. Police bodycam footage from the night of the incident—later shown on Bravo—revealed Huger slurring her words and discussing RHOP and Andy Cohen with the arresting officers, who appeared unimpressed.
She was found guilty in December on five of six charges, including DUI and negligent driving, but was acquitted of reckless driving.
Huger’s Absence from the ‘RHOP’ Reunion
In the aftermath of the verdict, Huger checked into a rehabilitation center, which led to her missing the multi-episode RHOP Season 9 reunion. Some of her co-stars speculated that her decision to enter rehab was a strategic move to garner sympathy ahead of sentencing.

Huger’s Response: Grief, Emotion, and Accountability
Shortly after the crash, Huger released a statement explaining that she had been emotionally overwhelmed, particularly due to the passing of her mother. She recounted having dinner with a friend before driving home in tears, claiming that she swerved to avoid an oncoming car before losing control of her vehicle.
She used the statement to emphasize the importance of emotional awareness while driving and credited her seatbelt with saving her life.
What This Means for ‘RHOP’
With Huger now behind bars, the future of her role on The Real Housewives of Potomac is uncertain. Will Bravo address her legal troubles in Season 10, or will they move forward without her? Given the franchise’s history of incorporating real-life scandals into its storylines, fans are eager to see how this plays out.
