Jeff Baena, a writer and director, has died by suicide at the age of 47, according to law enforcement sources cited by TMZ and confirmed by PEOPLE. Baena was married to actress Aubrey Plaza, with whom he collaborated on several projects.
Baena’s body was discovered by an assistant at a Los Angeles-area home around 10:30 a.m. local time on Friday, January 3. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Baena and Plaza started dating in 2011 and kept their relationship private. They tied the knot in 2021, which Plaza announced on Instagram by referring to Baena as her “darling husband.”
Throughout his career, Baena accumulated over a dozen directing and film credits, including co-writing the 2004 film “I Heart Huckabees” and directing “Life After Beth” (2014) and “Spin Me Round” (2022).
