On August 14, 2025, a Kentucky woman was arrested after allegedly causing more than $12,000 in damages to her ex-boyfriend’s car.

According to Madison County police, 31-year-old Stephanie Carlquist is accused of pouring salt into the engine, dumping glitter into the air-conditioning vents, cracking the windshield, slashing a tire, and breaking the vehicle’s radio screen. The damage was so severe that the car was declared a total loss.

Carlquist reportedly admitted to some of the vandalism in an email to her ex’s mother, claiming she was “stressed out.” She was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, a felony, and booked into the Madison County Detention Center before posting a $12,000 bond.

What made the case go viral wasn’t just the unusual vandalism — it was Carlquist’s smiling mugshot, which spread across social media. Many users joked about her unapologetic expression, with one commenter writing, “That smile says she’d do it again.”

Carlquist is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment later this month.
