A bizarre incident unfolded in downtown Los Angeles early Thursday morning when a man attempted to take control of a self-driving Waymo taxi. The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. near South Hill and 5th Street.
According to eyewitnesses, the man had entered the taxi and refused to exit, sitting in the driver’s seat. Police officers arrived at the scene and cautiously approached the vehicle, using a riot shield for protection.
Video footage showed the man engaging in a conversation with the officers before one of them opened the door and pulled him out of the vehicle. The unidentified man was subsequently handcuffed and taken into custody.
