Deadly LA Fires Continue to Rage
At least 10 people have died in the Los Angeles County wildfires, with the actual toll unclear until investigators can access neighborhoods. At least 20 people have already been arrested for looting. Tens of thousands of people have been impacted by evacuation orders since the blazes began.
Multiple Wildfires Burning Across LA County
- The Palisades Fire has burned at least 19,978 acres and is 6% contained.
- The Eaton Fire has burned at least 13,690 acres and is 3% contained.
- The Hurst Fire has burned at least 771 acres and is 37% contained.
- The Kenneth Fire has burned at least 1,000 acres and is 35% contained.
- The Lidia Fire has burned at least 394 acres and is 75% contained.
Response and Relief Efforts Underway
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has deployed the California National Guard to assist law enforcement. A curfew has been imposed on impacted areas under mandatory evacuation. Firefighting aircraft have been grounded temporarily due to a collision with an illegally operated drone.
Community Grapples with Aftermath
As many as 10,000 structures have been destroyed, leaving residents homeless and without belongings. The community is grappling with the aftermath, with many expressing frustration and anger over the scale of the disaster.
