My First Blogging Failure 😤
It was 2017, and the online landscape was vastly different from what it is today. AI-powered tools were nonexistent, video editing was a tedious task, and making money online was still a pipe dream for most people.
As a Marketing Director, I had a solid grasp of SEO principles and had successfully helped my clients in the industry rank high on search engines. It paid the bills, but it wasn’t my passion. My true passion was blogging, and I had big dreams of building a successful online presence.
But despite my expertise in SEO, my blog tanked. I couldn’t understand why my clients’ websites were thriving online, while my blog was invisible. I poured my heart and soul into creating high-quality content, but it seemed like no one was reading.
I spent countless hours researching, writing, and optimizing my posts, but the results were dismal. I felt like I was doing everything right, but somehow, I was missing the mark.
I invested in courses, attended webinars, and bought software, hoping to find the secret to success. But the more I spent, the more I felt like I was throwing money down the drain.
It was frustrating, to say the least. I knew I had the expertise to succeed, but somehow, I just couldn’t crack the code.
Looking back, I realize that I was missing some crucial pieces of the puzzle. But from that failure, I learned valuable lessons that would eventually help me build a successful blog
So why did my first blog fail so miserably? 😒
My Early Blogging Journey
It was 2017, and I was eager to dive into the world of blogging. As a journalist and digital marketer, I thought I had the skills to succeed. But despite my expertise, my blog didn’t take off. I was too emotionally invested, and I didn’t take the time to learn about blogging before diving in.
Looking back, I realize that I made some rookie mistakes. Three key things held me back:
- I didn’t know which website themes would hinder my website’s performance. I chose a theme that was visually appealing but slow and clunky. It affected my website’s loading speed, user experience, and ultimately, my search engine rankings.
- I didn’t realize that I needed to intertwine what I liked with what sold. I was blogging about beauty and relationships, but I wasn’t creating content that resonated with my audience or attracted potential sponsors. I was too focused on writing about what I loved, without considering the commercial viability of my content.
- I spent too much time on social media, trying to build a following. While social media is important, I was spending hours creating content, engaging with followers, and analyzing metrics, without seeing a significant return on investment. I was spreading myself too thin and neglecting other crucial aspects of blogging, like email marketing and SEO.
A Few Other Things That Held Me Back From Making Money from my blog
Looking back on my early blogging days, I can identify several key mistakes that held me back from achieving success. Despite my best efforts, I struggled to gain traction and make a meaningful income from my blog.
1.
I wasted time and money on the wrong things. I spent weeks trying to create the perfect logo, webinar, and funnel, and wasted thousands of dollars on Facebook ads and software I didn’t know how to use.

I didn’t know how to actually make money online. Despite attracting an audience, I couldn’t convert them into paying customers.

I didn’t take affiliate marketing seriously. I treated it as an afterthought, rather than a key revenue stream. As a result, I missed out on thousands of dollars in potential income.

I didn’t know how to write blog posts that people would actually read. My posts were inconsistent, took forever to write, and didn’t connect with readers – resulting in zero income.

I listened to bad advice from business and marketing “gurus.” I invested in courses and coaching programs that were outdated, overly technical, or just plain ineffective.

I used the wrong affiliate marketing methods. I focused on spammy tactics, such as plastering affiliate links everywhere, rather than creating valuable content that resonated with my audience.
It wasn’t until I recognized and addressed these mistakes that I was able to turn my blog into a successful online business. I’m grateful for the lessons I learned along the way, and I’m excited to share my knowledge with others.
But let’s back up, because I forgot something really important about my credentials! Besides my marketing background,
I used to be a full-time JOURNALIST.
I stopped being a journalist because of two main reasons:

2) I hated not being able to control my schedule.
