Even if you’re a frequent flyer, there’s always room to improve your in-flight etiquette.

“As flight attendants, we’ve seen it all,” says Rachel Johnson, a veteran flight attendant. “But what surprises me is how often passengers forget that they’re sharing a confined space with hundreds of others. A little consideration goes a long way in making everyone’s flight more enjoyable.”

Here are the six things flight attendants wish you wouldn’t do on your next flight:

1. Don’t Block the Aisle During Boarding

Please don’t stop in the middle of the aisle to adjust your carry-on or chat with your travel companion. It slows down the entire boarding process and can be a safety hazard.

2. Keep Your Seatbelt Fastened

We understand that turbulence can be unpredictable, but please keep your seatbelt fastened at all times when seated. It’s for your own safety, and we don’t want to have to remind you multiple times.

3. Don’t Leave Your Trash Behind

Please dispose of your trash properly and don’t leave it on the seat or floor. It’s not only courteous to your fellow passengers, but it’s also a health and safety issue.

4. Be Respectful of Personal Space

Remember that you’re in a confined space with hundreds of other people, so be mindful of your body language and personal space. Avoid stretching out into the aisle or leaning on your neighbor’s shoulder.

5. Don’t Make a Mess in the Lavatory

Please be considerate of the next passenger who uses the lavatory and try to leave it in the same condition as you found it. It’s not only common courtesy, but it’s also a health and safety issue.

6. Follow Electronic Device Rules

Please follow the rules regarding electronic devices during takeoff and landing. It’s not only a safety issue, but it’s also a federal regulation.

By following these simple tips, you can make your flight attendants’ jobs easier and ensure a safer, more enjoyable flight for everyone on board.

Based on various reports and airline policies, here are the top 3 reasons people get kicked off planes:

  1. Disruptive Behavior: This includes verbal or physical altercations with fellow passengers or flight attendants, refusing to follow instructions, and causing a disturbance.
  2. Refusal to Follow Safety Instructions: Failure to comply with safety protocols, such as refusing to turn off electronic devices, not wearing a seatbelt, or not returning a seat to its upright position.
  3. Intoxication or Substance Abuse: Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and displaying erratic or abusive behavior as a result.
