A Talk Research survey in partnership with Coors Light found that 55% of football fans believe the Monday after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday. With parties running late into the night, countless Americans either call in sick or show up to work unproductive and sleep-deprived.

Some employers have taken matters into their own hands. Certain companies allow their employees to arrive later or even work remotely the next day, recognizing the widespread exhaustion.

Others argue that making the day a federal holiday could improve workplace morale and productivity by eliminating the inevitable post-game slump.

The Economic and Logistical Challenges

On the other hand, critics argue that adding another national holiday could have economic repercussions. Businesses, especially small enterprises, may struggle with the costs of another paid day off. Additionally, federal holidays typically apply to government workers, leaving private-sector employees dependent on their company’s discretion.

There is also the question of fairness—should the Super Bowl be the only sporting event that warrants a day off? If this tradition is established, it may pave the way for calls to make days after events like the NBA Finals or the World Series national holidays as well.

Public Sentiment and Growing Support

The idea of a post-Super Bowl holiday is gaining traction. A Nexstar WDAF poll found that 69% of Kansas City residents support the idea. With such strong public backing, one possible compromise would be shifting the Super Bowl to Saturday, allowing fans to recover on Sunday.

While there are no legislative efforts currently in motion to make this change, the discussion continues. With over half of Americans in favor, the question remains: will lawmakers ever take action, or will fans be left hitting snooze on their alarms come Monday morning?
