This expansion means that about 86% of U.S. families will now qualify for Harvard financial aid. Even better, students from families earning $100,000 or less won’t just get Harvard free tuition—they’ll also have their housing, food, health services, and other essential student expenses covered.

Right now, the cost of attending Harvard, including tuition, housing, and other services, is estimated at $82,866 per year. Harvard College’s dean of admissions and financial aid, William R. Fitzsimmons, emphasized how crucial this policy is in attracting top talent from all backgrounds.

Over the years, the income threshold for free tuition has steadily risen—from $40,000 in 2004 to $85,000 in 2023, and now to $200,000 in 2025.
