One of Carter’s most notable achievements was his work with Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable housing to low-income families. Carter’s annual Habitat for Humanity work projects, which he continued well into his 90s, helped raise awareness and funds for the organization.

Throughout his life, Carter remained committed to his Christian faith and his values of compassion, empathy, and kindness. He taught Sunday school at his local Baptist church and wrote extensively on faith and politics.
