In the world of online entrepreneurship, Pinterest has emerged as a powerhouse platform, not just for inspiration and DIY projects, but also as a lucrative avenue for income generation.

While many view Pinterest as a visual search engine for ideas, its potential for driving traffic and sales is often underestimated.

Behind the scenes, savvy individuals are leveraging Pinterest’s unique features and algorithms to amass substantial monthly incomes, sometimes exceeding $10,000. So, how exactly do they accomplish this feat? Let me show you how.

almost 2 decades and I have used Pinterest on and off for about 8 years. Over the years, I have seen Pinterest grow (as I have used it religiously for clients) but it is still an underused and underestimated platform that can greatly enhance your business, service or product.

Look below at my monthly views, I have seen much larger accounts (I am just pointing out a fact) with 1/4 of these views. I am only saying this to prove that Pinterest is about views, not followers.

Generating a substantial income with Pinterest is extremely feasible and you do not have to have a large following!

The first thing you need to do to generate sales with Pinterest is to come up with a plan for what you are trying to sell. Is it a brand, product or service?

1. Niche Selection and Content Curation

They delve into niches with high demand, low competition, and a passionate audience. Whether it’s fashion, home decor, personal finance, or fitness, they identify topics where they can provide valuable content.

They meticulously curate their boards (for Branding purposes), ensuring that each pin aligns with their niche and resonates with their target audience. Consistency is key; they regularly upload fresh content, keeping their boards active and engaging. *When I say engaging, that means saving other account’s pins and commenting. It is extremely important that you engage.

Now on the flip side of this, is an online magazine / blog. We focus on fashion, beauty, health, fitness, business, relationship advice and current news. That means that when I post on Pinterest, it is never about one thing but rather 4 different niches (I narrowed it down to four). This has had its ups and downs. Thankfully Pinterest is not fully a followers platform. For instance – the amount of followers that you have is not as important as sites like instagram where people judge you off numbers. You just have to have a great Pin! Yes one great pin!

Story time: I have a client that focuses primarily on e-mail marketing. We post to the companies socials a couple times a week, but the Pinterest Social is traditionally one of the most clicked on link in each e-mail. Why? Social Proof. People want to make sure the product or service is real, which is why social media can be extremely important for your business.

2. Optimize for Pinterest SEO

Pinterest operates as a search engine, making a wooden block that says seo on it search engine optimization (SEO) crucial for visibility. Top earners conduct keyword research to identify popular search terms within their niche. They strategically incorporate these keywords into pin descriptions, titles, and board names, increasing the likelihood of their content appearing in search results.

Additionally, they capitalize on Pinterest’s guided search feature by using relevant hashtags. This enhances the discoverability of their pins, attracting more clicks and engagement.

Here’s a great tip, always change the pin’s name (your graphic) to fit the title of your post. Never upload a file like this: 101.jpg.

Also, play with manually posting or using a 3rd party posting site. I have found greater success with manually uploading posts and utilizing  jpgs or mp4. I do not like to use gifs.

I have used both and both are great.

Also search for pins that are similar to yours and see what aesthetics they are using. 

I am a big believer in posting. If you follow me, you will see that I post around 40 times a week and it is not time consuming. I’ve also tested the theory on the sizing of Pinterest and it honestly doesn’t matter.

Here are a couple of my ad secrets: When you are first starting off, create a couple of different ads. One where you have narrowed down your audience and one where you are letting Pinterest gather your audience. See which ad is working better for your ROI.
